United Cinemas Unicus Chichibu
United Cinemas Unicus Chichibu is a cinema complex built for the city of Chichibu, which had been without a movie theatre for 29 years. The complex holds seven screens and 650 seats within 2,490 square metres. Most screens seat fewer than 100 people, which allows a wide variety of films to be shown for a small population. A curtain wall facade and a bright lobby finished with slate stone and wood welcome passers-by as well as film-goers. The design works as a living room for the city, where visitors of all ages can meet. All theatres use laser projectors and a digital signage system.
United Cinemas Unicus Chichibu Complex by Mitsuhiro Shinohara was highlighted as a grand illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. United Cinemas Unicus Chichibu Complex earned the Bronze A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2023. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is a highly prestigious international design prize which recognizes outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
