Surround
Surround is a residential interior design for a 114 square meter home in Taichung, Taiwan. The layout differs from standard plans. The living room is placed at the back of the house to ensure sufficient sunlight and privacy. The entrance holds an aerial yoga space with a large wall mirror that reflects daylight and widens the sense of space. The central ceiling beam is rounded at the edges to reduce bulkiness. Tinted glass display shelves add transparency, and a bookshelf wall beside the tall staircase stores books and models.
Surround Residence by Yi Ju Liao has been identified as a creative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Surround Residence was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in Interior Space and Exhibition Design in 2023. The A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award is a highly prestigious, international, juried design competition that rewards outstanding design of residential interiors, restaurants, hotels, offices, galleries, retail stores, showrooms, exhibition spaces and more.
